hot toddy
I've got the grippe. Flu', for the commoners amongst you.
So here's what will save me (and you, if you find yourself in said state of prostration)
some boiling water,
juice from one small lemon,
genorous teaspoon of good honey,
genorous measure of whisky.
(we don't have any cloves).
I'm off to bed!
My new modem*
I'm getting one of these little beauties!
I can't say I need it, but it's coming free with my ADSL (which is coming in 15-20 days, apparently).
Ah I'm excited. The only bummer is that the ADSL is only going to be around 256Kbps, and I want like 10Mbps. Still, five times faster is a lot faster.
*And yes, I am aware that this is not technically, or only, a modem. But that is the function it will perform, alongside being able to use the laptop anywhere in the house without a phone cable…
hehehe
This is excellent!
For those who can understand some Spanish, have a look at this. It is my site in the worst Spanish known to humanity. Me, my dad and my brother could do a better job than this!
Incidentally, I'm trying out a new tool for my blog as w.bloggar seems to be in a state of dysfunction.

I Am Kloot
On Thursday, we went to see this excellent Manchester band! I first saw them in a union bar in Swansea and surprisingly this gig was just as intimate. The performance was faultless, the old material played immaculately, and the new material even better. The boozy, after hours feel was (cue Alan Partridge) marred slightly by the loud and most raucous chatting/laughter at the back during the acoustic pieces, but never mind. Top job.
Elliott Smith 1969-2003
It's hard to believe, and yet it makes a lot of sense. His songs were like a private thing for me; I listened to them alone.
Elliott Smith died on Tuesday from a stab wound (apparently self-inflicted) to the chest.
He wrote the most touching, sad songs I've ever heard, and it seems that his sadness finally won in the great battle of genius. I didn't know him, meet him, or even see him play. I'm sure he'd find this ridiculous. Take care, mate.
On Friday I was promoted to 'Agent' — which means that I handle accounts personally. And get an extra 500 a month (starting December.)
We had some friends over.
We went to a shopping mall whaere they already had christmas decorations up.
I have signed up for ADSL, and in a week or so should be able to connect at 256 kb/s
Devon's flag
This is possibly the best 'comments page' on the BBC site that I've ever read (and there have been some real gems in the past).Click here to read the discussion over Devon's new flag.
A favourite comment:
John, South Brent
Whilst I agree with the idea of fostering a Devon identity and welcome the flag, I feel that it should be pointed out that the flag is not our National Ensign and should not be flown as such in any vessel. The National Ensign for Great Britain is the Red Ensign and should be flown in all British registered craft. It is not legal to display any other flag as an ensign, including the Devon flag (or that of our friends across the Tamar or even, God forbid, the excresence from Europe!) and any such flag can be removed by representitives of Her Majesty. By all means display our Devon identity, but also be proud of our national maritime heritage and display the 'Red Duster' when afloat.
– thanks for that comment, John. I shall be sure to watch out for any 'excresence' next time I'm in Modbury.
(for those who don't know, South Brent is a grubby little hole)

All Hail the Order Processor
Life's good, and work's fine.
The team I am part of (one dealing mainly with the computer orders of 'a major oil company') is going to have another two order processors working on it, and have one of the accounts taken away which means one thing: LESS WORK FOR ME!!!!!
I have booked flights to the UK for Christmas, arriving 20 December and leaving 27 December.
