Plymouth - an example in civic planning?

I was most amused to see this description of my birthplace in the Encylopedia Britannica:

During World War II Plymouth suffered severe bomb damage from air raids. The new Plymouth has some of the finest commercial, shopping, and civic centres in Britain.

They should really have a policy on sarcasm.

C´mon, can´t be all that bad. I still remember a rather good chippie on Cornwall St, it really put to utter shame all those Catalan pork-based delicacies you get showered with everywhere in these hereabouts. Now I'm being nasty without any visible purpose, must be this unbearable heat…or the prospect of Germany beating Turkey and going through to the final. I dislike the Mannschaft as much as I dislike Chelsea FC, Roman Abramovich, his bloody monster yacht and snooty Michael Ballack.

And, yes, the air raids by our pre-Green German fellow citizens of Europe were pretty horrible.
